Funeral Rites For Porter O. King

Funeral services were held for Porter O. Kng at the Colo Methodist church, Sunday, Jun 10 at 2 o'clock. The Rev. John Rex, pastor of the church, was in charge of the service. The many beautiful floral pieces were care for and arranged by Mrs. Henry Hemping and Mrs. Forest Horner. Music was provided by a Male Trio, the group being Mark Wilson, LaVern Horner and Charles Lehman, who used as their number, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset." Mrs. Mark Wilson accompanied them at the piano and provided music preceding and following the service.

Interment was made at the Colo Cemetery with the Colo I.O.O.F. Lodge, in charge of the graveside service.

The funeral was largely attended which testified to the high esteem the deceased was held in community.

Mr. King passed away suddenly on Friday morning June 7 while doing carpenter work at the residence of the J. N. Turner's. He was stricken with a severe heart attack and passed away immediately. His death came as a distinct shock to his family and the entire Colo Community. Always of a very cheerful disposition and doing his work well and doing more than his share, he will be greatly missed in the home and by his many friends.

Following is the obituary read by the Rev. Rex during the service:

Porter O. King, son of Allen W. and Martha A. King was born August 11, 1885, and passed away very suddenly on June 8, 1951. He was united in marriage to Miss Sylvia Loucks on March 13, 1907, who survives with one son, Gerald, at home. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Cuba Spaulding and Miss Sadie King, and five brothers Elmer, Emery, and Virgil King all of Indiana, Noble King of Detroit, Mich., and Kermit King of Paso Robles, Calif. with a host of friends and other relatives.

He has lived in the Colo community for the past 29 years where he was engaged in farming for several years, and also was employed at the Farmers Grain Co., for sometime. The past 10 years he has followed the carpenter business. he was a member of the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodges of Colo.

Those from a distance attending the funeral service were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Elmer King, Mr. and Mrs. Emery King of Sheridan, Ind., Noble King, Detroit, Mich., Virgil King, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Spaulding, Frankfort, Ind.; Sadie King, Kirklin, Ind., Ora Loucks, Lebanaon, Ind.; Russell and Alva Loucks, Frankfort, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Ray Loucks, Gary, Ind., Beth Stanbaugh and James Kane, Anderson, Ind., W. T. Rogers and daughters of Zearing and Mr. and Mrs. Will Buttry of Ames,

Members of the Methodist church W.S.C.S served the dinner for the funeral group at the church parlors at 12:30 Sunday afternoon. And the members of the Rebekah Lodge served a lunch to the group at the King home, following the funeral services.
