Last Rites for Henry Johnson Monday Afternoon
Funeral services for Henry Johnson were held Monday afternoon Dec. 31 at the Church of Christ in Collins with Rev. Geo. Adkins and Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge. Burial in Collins cemetery.
The following obituary was read at the funeral service:
William Henry Johnson, son of Henry and Catherine Johnson, was born Dec. 29, 1876 and departed this life Dec. 28, 1945, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 28 days.
On Jan. 1, 1900, he married Bertha Halterman. To this union one daughter, now Mrs. Earl Leonard was born. They spent most of their married life in Story County until Bertha passed away in April, 1935.
He was in various lines of businesses throughout his life until his health began to fail the last few yeas At this time he came to live with the John Halterman family near Roland, Ia., until it became necessary for him to move to Nevada where he would be closer to medical care.
He has been a patient sufferer for several years. In that time he has been in the Iowa City Hospital for three months and a patient of the Mary Greeley where he passed to the world beyond. In all his pain and suffering he could always joke and make the best of it without complaining to his many friends. He was known as "Uncle Bill" and he will be greatly missed by them.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Collins, Ia.
He leaves to mourn his loss a daughter, Ila Mae Leonard of Omaha, Nebr., a sister Minnie and a brother Walter also of Omaha and a half brother, Nels Strong of Minnesota. He also leaves 3 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was a kind husband and father.
