Obituary of Charles W. Hammond
The following obituary of Chas. W. Hammond, resident of Nevada for the past ten years has been submitted. A brief service had been held in Nevada with the Rev. O. E. Cooley of the Methodist church officiating assisted by Nevada Masonic Lodge and the IOOF lodge No. 104, of which, he had been a member. The deceased was a man highly respected in Nevada and community.
"Charles W. Hammond, son of Frank and Jennie Hammond, was born near Deford, Mich., on June 20, 1894. He departed this life at the family home in Nevada, Ia., Jan. 26, 1946 at the age of 51 years, seven months and six days.
"He was united in marriage at Unionville, Mo., to Miss Hope Gladys Dorsey on Aug. 28, 1937 who survives him. No children were born to this union. He is mourned in death by his devoted wife, mother, Mrs. Jennie Hammond, four brothers, Ray, Frank, Leslie and Roy Hammond; four sisters, Mrs. Alta King, Ms. Ethel Austin, Mrs. Edith Pomeroy and Beulah Stevens. One sister, Linda*, and one brother and his father preceded him in death. Nineteen nephews and nieces, other relatives and a great number of friends also survive, who will miss him along life's way. He stood for the higher and better things in life. He had membership in the Methodist church, Masonic Lodge No. 99 and the IOOF, No. 104, all of Nevada and had many friends in his home town.
The body was brought to the Comstock Funeral Home, where funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. J. D. Noland, and assisted by the Unionville Masonic order officiating for the Nevada lodge. The body was laid to rest in the Union church cemetery.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: This sister of the deceased is not "Linda" but is Lina Hammond Carva who died 30 Nov. 1931 at Caro, Tuscola County, Michigan.
