Mrs. Mattie Huhn
"Mattie Josephine Doss, daughter of Mr. and Mr. William Doss, was born at Philo, Ill., on Feb. 7, 1883. She passed away at her home in Nevada, Iowa, on June 19, 1946, at the age of 63 years, four months and 12 days. Mattie Doss grew to womanhood in the Philo, Ill., community. She was confirmed on May 22, 1898, in an Evangelical Lutheran church in Philo, Ill.
In 1906 she came to Nevada, Iowa, where she was married to Mr. A. W. Huhn on December 19. The home was established on a farm southeast of Nevada. Two children were born to the home. In March of 1930 she came to Nevada where she lived until her death. When Mrs. Huhn settled in her home, she chose to unite with the Summit Evangelical church which was near her home.
In this church she reared her family and enjoyed the fellowship of Christian believers. When the church was later removed and brought into town, she brought her membership with it and continued in the fellowship of devotion in the Lord. She was active in all interests of the church until the time when health hindered her regular attendance.
She was particularly interested in the work of the Womens Missionary Society. She kept up her interest by following the programs as they were promoted by the local society. Her faith in the God whom she loved gave her mush confidence in the words of Jesus concerning life after death.
Mrs. Huhn was a kindly mother and neighbor. She belonged to the Woman's Relief Corps and the Pythian Sisters. She had many friends who will mourn her passing in death.
Those of her immediate family who survive are: Kenneth and his wife Henrietta; Doris, a granddaughter, Sue Ann Huhn, all of Nevada; three older sisters who were unable to come because of poor health: Mrs. Ida Doherty of Decatur, Ill.; Mrs. Lena Phillips, Findlay, Ill.; and Mrs. Sarah Trost, Philo, Ill.
