Final Rites For Jonas Riggins Grindem
Funeral services for the late Jonas Riggins Grindem, who passed away at his home Saturday forenoon, April 9, after being critically ill for the past three weeks with a heart ailment, were held at the Bergen Lutheran church on Wednesday afternoon, April 13, with the Rev. Allen Nelson in charge and burial was made in Roland cemetery.
Harris Twedt sang two solos at the church and the casket bearers were Leonard Twedt, Andrew Enes, Lester Eide, John G. Johnson, Chris and Jacob Risdal.
Obituary
Jonas Riggins Grindem, son of the late Engebrit and Johanna Grindem was born in Creston, Ill., on August 9, 1870, being 78 years, eight months and two days old at the time of his death. His mother passed away when he was two years old and in 1873 the father and six children came to Roland. He spent his entire life in Roland community, living on a farm, one and a half miles north east of town, until three years ago when he retired and moved into his home in the east part of town. He was married, Dec. 31, 1896, to Rancy Judith Rasmussen and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1946. Mrs. Grindem passed away on Nov. 22, 1948.
Surviving
Surviving are five children, three daughters, Mrs. Elmer Hoversten (Viola) of Ames, Mrs. Otis Sevde (Ruth) of Roland and Mrs. James Logan (Cora) of Des Moines and two sons, Irven of Nevada and Earl on the home farm. Also 13 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. B. J. Talbott of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. L. B. Collins of Woodward, Oklahoma, also survive.
Those from a distance attending were from Story City, Ames, Hubbard, Radcliffe, Marshalltown, Cambridge, McCallsburg and Nevada.
