THE MAXWELL IOWA TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, March 8, 1928, page 1. " MRS. JOHN R. BELL Funeral services for Mrs. John R. Bell, of Altoona, who died Friday, were held Sunday afternoon from the Peoria M. P. church. The services were conducted by Rev. W. S. Kight, pastor of the local Methodist church. The church was filled with neighbors and friends who had lived in that locality and was known by many for her womanly traits of character, sympathetic and kind to all and spent her life in a real service for her own children and any one to whom she could. She will be greatly missed by many. Mary Melinda Scott, daughter of Samuel and Minerva Scott, was born near Rockford, Ill., March 4 1856, and died March 2 1928, at Altoona, Iowa, aged 71 years, 11 months and 27 days. She was united in marriage to John R. Bell January 21, 1873 and this union were born nine children, seven of whom survive her. Mertie Conner of Henry, S. D.; Nellie Miller, of Springfield, Mo.; Roy Bell, of Maxwell; Bert Bell of Des Moines; Glen Bell of Bondurant; Jennie Byers of Maxwell; and Laura Backus, of Berwick; also twenty-six grand children and sixteen great grandchildren. One daughter Irene and one infant son preceded her in death. Early in life she was converted and united with the Baptist church, later uniting with the M. P. church at Peoria."
