Final Rites in Collins For Sarah E. McCord

Last rites were conducted from the Evangelical United Brethreyn church in Collins Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 5, for the late Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth McCord, former Collins resident who passed away Sunday morning at Carroll, where for the past few years she had made her home with her son, R. D. McCord.

Mrs. McCord sustained injuries in a fall about three months ago and since that time had been in failing health. Death was due to complications of old age.

The funeral services were in charge of the Rev. L. L. Martin, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church.

Vocal music was by Mrs. Meyer Brekke and Mrs. Eldon Wolf, who sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "Abide With Me" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. Donna Ose at the piano.

The many beautiful flowers were cared for by Mrs. L. D. Holland and Mrs. K. W. Tomlinson.

Pallbearers were R. G. Patton, Bradford Stevens, Dewey Kern, L. D. Holland, R. W. Vasey and J. R. Armstrong.

Interment was in the Iowa Center cemetery.

Obituary

Sarah E. McCord, daughter of Wm. and Anna Bowman, was born at Lisbon, Linn county, Iowa, Oct. 21, 1858, and departed this life at Carroll, Iowa, Sept. 3, 1950, at the age of 91 years, 10 months, 13 days.

On the eighth day of February, 1882, she was united in marriage to Abram S. McCord, who preceded her in death, August 22, 1925.

To this union five children were born: three daughters who died in infancy, and two sons, Earl A. who passed away in April, 1947, and Ralph D., who resides in Carroll, Ia. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Harford, Sacramento, Cal.; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Church Member

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In early life she became a devout Christian and a member of the United Brethren church of the Dalton neighborhood located south of Colo, Ia. later transferring her membership to the Collins church. She was ever faithful to her church and during her long period of life always retained profound faith in her God.

At the close of the comforting message by the minister a memoriam written by the late Sarah Huntrods to Mrs. McCord was read.

Relatives and friends were present from Zearing, Des Moines, Storm Lake, Denison, Roland, Nevada, Colo, State Center and Maxwell.
