Services for John Blayney Friday

ZEARING -- Funeral services for John Blayney, 89, who died at the Story County Home near Nevada, were held yesterday afternoon at the Evangelical U. B. church in Zearing. Burial was in the Zearing cemetery.

Obituary

John S. Blayney, the oldest son of Hugh and Rebecca Blayney, was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, Nov. 24, 1860, and passed away June 27, 1950, age 89 years, seven months and three days.

In 1882 the family came to Iowa arriving in Zearing March 24, 1882. He lived on various farms in the neighborhood of St. Anthony and Zearing.

In 1886 he went to California where he spent a few years. Returning to Iowa he again engaged in farming.

In 1905 he went to Nebraska, where he took up a claim. On May 30, 1906 he was united in marriage to Lillian Robinson. To this union four children were born.

Due to an accident while living in Nebraska he lost his left arm, after which he returned to Iowa where he lived in Marshalltown. At this time his wife's health became such that she had to enter a sanitarium and the family was broken up, various relatives taking the children.

Mrs. Blayney died in 1916. He continued to work around Zearing until about 17 years ago when he went to Nevada, which has been his home since.

He is survived by 3 children, Edna, Mrs. Lee McCormick, Loveland, Colo., Margaret, Mrs. Martin Hansen, Norwalk, Calif. and Mack Blayney, Davenport, and seven grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Maria Scott, Nevada. He was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and three sisters.
