Last Rites For C. E. Longnecker Sunday Afternoon

Funeral services for Charles E. Longnecker of Nevada, were held from the Central Presbyterian church, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. James D. Ransom officiating.

Appropriate music was played at the opening and closing of the service with Mrs. J. R. Dillin at the organ.

The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Harold Montgomery and Mrs. Ray Bodger.

The casket bearers were Alfred Earwell of Mingo, Frank Eatwell of Cedar Rapids, Eldon Eatwell of Farrar, Tom Eatwell of Ames, Carl Hill and Frank Hill of Maxwell.

Burial was in the Maxwell cemetery.

Obituary

Charles E. Longnecker, son of David and Mary Longnecker, was born near Maxwell, Iowa, March 23, 1865. He was married to Alice Cole, March 20, 1890, near Farrar.

Mr. and Mrs. Longnecker lived for many years near Maxwell, then at Burt, Iowa, and in recent years, in Nevada, Iowa.

Mr. Longnecker was a member of the Presbyterian church and throughout his life was active in church affairs, serving at different times as an elder, a trustee, and always was a faithful attendant at all services. He had remained remarkably active for his age until he suffered a broken hip in fall four months ago. After being hospitalized for several weeks he returned home on the day he and his wife celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. He had been confined to his home but was making tine improvement until he suffered a heart attack Thursday afternoon, June 8, and passed away a few hours later. He was 85 years of age.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, two sons, R. H. Longnecker and Ralph Longnecker of Denver, Colo., and two daughters, Iona, Mrs. Carl Whitney of Maxwell, and Ruth, Mrs. Forrest Scott of Huntington, Neb., all of whom were here for the last rites. He also leaves five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, five brothers, and five sisters.

Mr. Longnecker was greatly attached to his home and family yet he had many business friends for whom he always had a smile and a cheery greeting.

Among those from a distance in attendance at the last rites were three brothers of the deceased, Cliff and Hugh Longnecker of Newton and Walter Longnecker of Trenton, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Loncor of Bondurant, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Geisler of Mingo, Mrs. Joel Bittner of LeGrand and others from Mingo, Maxwell and Farrar.
