THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, December 25, 1901, page 7, column 4. "Miss Anna Bailey of near Valeria died Monday night of typhoid fever and the interment will take place Christmas day. This family has been sorely afflicted during the fall and winter. Two of the boys lay sick for over two months with the same disease and during this time one other become** temporarily demented on account of the great strain of caring for them but just as they were about recovered Anna was taken with the dread disease to which she succombed.** Anna was an exemplarary** young lady and was a great assistance to her aged mother whose sight is considerably affected. Rev. Fickinger, of Maxwell, will conduct the funeral. Mrs. Bailey and family have the sincere sympathy of their many friends." **Editorial note, spelling and phrasing of sentences are used from the original newspaper article.

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, January 2, 1902, page 1, column 5. "OBITUARY. - Miss Anna Bailey was born about two and one-half miles north and west of Valeria, December 27, 1884, was converted and united with the Evangelical church August 1899, and died December 23, 1901, age 16 years, 11 months and 24 days. She leaves a mother, one sister and six brothers. Her father precedes her. Anna was an exemplary girl, devoted to her Christ and His church. She will be missed in her home, church and community. Funeral took place on Xmas day. The pall bearers were six of her school mates and friends, Edith Snyder, Martha Mickle, Mary Mickle, Dora Battle, Rose Hay and Minnie Mickle. The funeral sermon was preached in the Valeria M. C. church by the writer. E. W. Fickinger."

"Mr. Enoch Marsh, of Blue Earth City, Minnesota, came down Christmas day to attend the funeral of his niece, Miss Anna Bailey, of Valeria. He also spent several days with his sister, Mrs. J. G. Kopf, of this city who is quite sick. Mr. Marsh is well pleased with the improvement that our city has made since he was last here. He gave this office a pleasant call and will read the TRIBUNE during the year 1902. Another thing worth of note is that he purchased a handsome sofa of Cooper Bros., they offering to lay it down in Blue Earth City cheaper than he could get it of his home merchants."
