Hold Final Services For S. L. Knaphus

Funeral services for S. L. Knaphus, 66, of McCallsburg, who passed away Monday, March 27, were held from the Bethany Lutheran church in McCallsburg on Friday at ------, March 31, with Rev. H. N. Bakke officiating. Rev. Peder Buland of Cambridge, longtime friend of the family, also spoke a few words.

Mrs. John Helland was at the organ and Mesdames G. E. DuBois and B. A. Imsland sang "The Great Physician" and "The Eastern Gate."

Mesdames Lloyd Ellingson and Orville Ellingson cared for the flowers. There were many gifts to the Lutheran church building fund, missions, Beloit Children's Home and Hauge Foundation in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Pall bearers were Henry Aasheim, Andrew Bergland, Tybo Caltvedt, John Helland, Albert Hill and Sam Holland. Interment was in the McCallsburg cemetery.

Obituary

Sakarias L. Knaphus was born Dec. 5, 1883, in Vats, Norway, Europe, the fifth child of Lars and Liva Knaphus. After coming to America he worked around Huxley and Kelley until 1914. He visited Norway at this time and returned to America the same year.

On March 8, 1916, he was married to Inger Alendal and shortly thereafter they moved to the McCallsburg vicinity. Since that time they have lived in the 'Burg community and moved to their present home in 1946.

To this union three children were born, Sigrid, Lawrence and George.

Mr. Knaphus was a very active member of the Bethany Lutheran church and served as a deacon and trustee to the church. He was also an active Sunday school member. He passed away quietly at his home on Monday, March 27, at the age of 66 years, three months and 22 days.

Survivors

He is survived by his wife, Inger a daughter, Sigrid at home, two sons, Lawrence of McCallsburg and George of Ames, and one grandson, Kristopher. Also surviving are four brothers, Lars Kampley of Huxley, Terleif of Salt Lake City, Utah, Andrew of Richfield, Utah, and Martin of Norway, Europe.

He was very devoted to his wife and children, thinking always of them and seldom of himself. His passing is a great loss to his family, his church and the McCallsburg community.

Included among the large number of friends who attended the funeral were his brother, Andrew of Richfield, Utah; Mr. and Mrs. Lars Kampley of Huxley; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Larson, Mrs. Martha Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Kampley of Des Moines, and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Alfseike and Mrs. Liva Towe of Jewell and others from Jewell, Belmond, Cambridge, Nevada, Ames, Roland, Story City, Huxley, Zearing, Gilbert, Garden City, Radcliffe, Randall, Kelley and Ottosen.
