Final Services For C. J. Holland in S. C.
A short service in the Larson-Peterson Funeral home in Story City preceded the last rites Friday afternoon in St. Petri Lutheran church for C. J. Holland, lifelong resident of Story City, whose death occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
The Rev. S. T. Nelson officiated and Mrs. Robert Hermanson was the soloist.
Serving as pall bearers were John Springman, Julius Knutson, T. Z. Henryson, Herman Johnson, Gerhard Ericson, Earl Christian, T. M. Holm and Sylvan Skeie. Interment was in the Story City cemetery.
Carl J. Holland, the son of Paul J. and Martha Holland, was born on the farmstead east of Story City, July 8, 1884. Growing to manhood he continued farming the home place where, after a few months of illness he passed away from a heart attack early Tuesday morning, Feb. 14, 1950. He was 65 years, seven month, and five days at the time of his death.
He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Petri Lutheran church. His education was received in the rural school.
June 24, 1929, he was united in marriage to Elma Hulbert. One child was born to this union.
Throughout the years Mr. Holland was active in various community organizations. Among these he served for many years as a member of the board and president of the Sandness School board, trustee of Scott township, director of the National Farm Loan association of Story county, Secretary treasurer of the Story City Co-operative Livestock Marketing association, since 1935, secretary of the Farmer's fire truck association since 1939. He served several years as member of the finance board of the St. Petri church.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife; one daughter, Carol; a step-daughter, Mary Helen; a step-son, Hobert; a sister, Melinda (Mrs. Harry Henderson) all of Story City; two brothers: Martin of Story City and Ole of Dilke, Sask., Canada; and three grandchildren.
