Mrs. Love Fry Laid to Rest Sunday Afternoon

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Love May Fry were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'cloc at the Memorial Lutheran church at Nevada with a short family prayer service at the Ryan Fuenral home at 2:30. Reverend Windman had charge of the service with Carmen Lookingbill assisting. At the service Mrs. Clifford Padellford and Marjorie Childs sang two selections, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "It is Well with My Soul", with Mrs. Irene Dobson at the organ.

Rev. Windman used as his text St. John, chapter 12, 1, 2, and 3rd verses. Following the remains were removed to Zearing cemetery and interred in the family plot. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, Merle Maliet, Robert Selby, Donald Fry, Richard Selby, Victor Selby and Billy Selby. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Fred Karges and Rose Stratton.

The following obituary was read at the funeral service:

"Love May Burkett, born November 11, 1871, at Fort Seneca, Ohio, daughter of Joseph and Katherine Spade Burkett, died May 21, 1947, at 8:40 p.m. at the home of daughter, Mrs. Ethel Selby in Nevada.

Beginning her childhood at Bettsville and growing to womanhood there, she was married to David Berry Fry on March 7, 1888 at Bettsville, Ohio. In 1890 they moved to Illinois for a short duration, coming to Iowa to make a permanent home near Zearing where they reared their family. Mrs. Fry joined the United Brethren church when a young woman and leaving that faith she transferred her membership to the Memorial Lutheran church here twelve years ago. Her husband preceded her in death on May 24, 1917. She moved to Nevada in 1921 which has been her home until two years ago when she moved to Cambridge and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. M. F. Maliet and family.

To this union was born ten children. She leaves to mourn her passing, five daughters, Mrs. M. F. Maliet, Cambridge, Ia.; Mrs. Guy Selby, Nevada; Mrs. Joseph Schermerhorn, East Randolph, New York; Mrs. Don Sprague, Ligonier, Ind.; and Mrs. Raymond Ross, Wolcottville, Ind. Three sons, Everett C. Fry, Ames, Orville F. Fry, Washington, Rhode Island; George Howard Fry, Rome City, Ind. Two daughters preceded her in death, Helen and Ione. Sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was the last of six children, four brothers and a sister.

She was a good and tender loving mother, always putting her interest and devotion towards her loved ones. Hard working and faithful, lover of beauty, her one great desire, to live and see the return of her grandsons from the war. This desire God granted to this understanding mother and grandmother. Everyone who knew her loved her and respected her.

Her children are all present today with the exception of the son, Orville, who was unable to attend.

From Out of Town

Those attending from out of town were Mrs. Clara Elliott and sister Pearl, and Mrs. Harry Powell of Marshalltown, Mrs. Katie Jeanette and son Gerald, Henry Maliet of Elkhart, Iowa, Mrs. Lucy Harris and Mrs. Rupp of Maxwell, Mr. and Mrs. Demmy Maliet and daughter of Kelley, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ericson of Zearing, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Lande of Huxley and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Maddigan and Bertha Ericson of Ames, Miss Florence Jones of Des Moines, Mrs. Glendora Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Dahl of Cambridge. At the cemetery were gathered a host of old friends and neighbors of surrounding communities.
