George Stigler Funeral Services Held At Slater

Funeral services for George A. Stigler were held Sunday afternoon at the Riis Funeral Home at 2 o'clock.

Rev. Paul Harris, pastor of the First Methodist church in Slater, was in charge of the services. He sang "Like is Like a Mountain Railroad." Mrs. Leonard Hines accompanied him on the piano.

Using John 14 as the text he spoke on "Christ's Concept of Immortality."

The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Rudy Zagar and Mrs. Rodney Sutter.

Pallbearers were Ovid Louks, Homer Locker, Jonas Christianson, Ralph Pirkey, Phil Rood and George Jennings.

Interement was in the Evergreen Cemetery near Collins.

Life Sketch

George Alec Stigler, son of William and Luda Stigler, was born June 20, 1884 at Ruleville, Miss. and passed away Wednesday, Sept.13 at 4:10 p.m. at his home in Slater at the age of 77 years. He was a member of the Christian Church in Collins.

He was united in marriage to Maud Iola Wells of Collins on June 4, 1913.

He spent his entire life as an employee of the Railroad, 45 years of service in the Milwaukee Road. He retired Aug. 31, 1955.

Survivors include his wife, Maud; a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Stigler and their three sons, Thomas, James and Russell, all of Maxwell.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Maurice Stigler was the adopted son of George Alec Stigler and Maud Iola Wells. He was born Maurice Thomas Granger, the biological son of Harvey Thomas Granger and Nellie Mae Wells (sister of Maud Wells.)
