Tragic Death of Slater Woman
Mrs. P. S. Griffith, age about 35 years, was instantly killed when she was kicked in the head by a horse Tuesday afternoon of last week.
The family lived on a farm about four miles north of Slater. The husband was getting ready to leave for town when Mrs. Griffith went out to give him a message. She then stooped down behind one of the horses to pick up some cobs, when the animal, ordinarily a very gentle one, kicked at her, striking her squarely in the head, inflicting fatal injuries.
The husband picked her up and carried her to the house, after which he summoned a doctor and other help at once but investigation showed that her death had been almost instantaneous.
This in the third tragedy in this ill fated family within three years time. It was but about two months ago that a sister of the woman who was the wife of a brother of Mr. Griffith, with a baby, was killed in a grade crossing accident at Ankeny.
About three years ago a six year old child of the P. S. Griffith family fell from a loaded wagon, under the wheels which passed over her body and she was also killed.
In her immediate family Mrs. Griffith leaves her husband and three children, one of them a baby less than a year old.
