DEATH OF FORMER ROLAND BOY

George Hines, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hines, former residents of this community, died at Wichita< Kansas, on September 6 from injuries received while bathing. George Hines will be remembered by many here as he lived with his parents here about fifteen years ago and was back here again last fall and worked for T. C. Jacobson.

The following is taken from the Orand Meadow, Minn., Record:

The people of this community were saddened on Monday when word came that George Hines had passed away in a hospital at Wichita, Kan., where he has been confined for the past two months as a result of injuries received while bathing. The family received word last Friday that he was in a critical condition and Mr. Hines left at once for Wichita. He arrived there shortly before the end came. It will be remembered that he struck on his head and shoulders while making a dive and was paralyzed as a result. He seemed to be recovering from the paralysis but complications set in.

George was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Hines and was born in LeGrande, Iowa, December 31st, 1899. Eight years ago he came with his parents to this community He attended the Grand Meadow high school and was in the Junior year when the country entered the was against Germany. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and served for six months. Several months ago he went to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and engaged in the steel construction business, later going to Wichita, Kansas. It was there that he met with the accident that resulted in his death.

George was one of those manly good natured boys that all people like and friends by the score mourn his untimely demise. All join in extending sincere sympathy to the grief stricken parents, brothers and sisters.

The funeral services were held on Thursday, September 9, from the Methodist church. The services were attended by the members of the American Legion in uniform and by many friends of the family. the floral offerings were many and beautiful, attesting to the popularity of the deceased boy. The remains were interred in the Grand Meadow cemetery.
