Former Nevada Man Died Monday In California

D. M. Grove, 81, for over forty years a resident and prominent business man of Nevada, died at Pasadena, Calif., Monday at 11 a. m., according to a message reaching Nevada today.

The body is expected to arrive here Saturday morning 7:57 over the Northwestern and funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p. m. at the Morfoot Funeral home, followed by interment in the Nevada cemetery by the side of his first wife, who died here April 9, 1930.

Mr. Grove had left Nevada and made a new home in California about six years ago and since that time had remarried. He had been back to Nevada occasionally since adopting his Pacific coast home, to look after business affairs.

During his forty years as resident of Nevada, where he came in 1890 to establish a farm implement business, Mr. Grove was ever energetic and was one of the well-known and very active factors in the business and political life in the community.

He had not only conducted a successful business but had served the county as auditor for two terms, spent several years as secretary of the Iowa Implement Dealers association and later as secretary and general manager of the Iowa Implement Mutual Insurance association and was active in other commercial and public affairs.

He was a native of Bedford county Pennsylvania, where he was born May 10, 1856, fourth of the six children of John L. and Correlia (Giles) Grove.

The father brought the family to Iowa in 1868, settling near Carroll, where he engaged in farming. In the east he had been a blacksmith.

Daniel having attended a private school in the east, continued his studies in the district schools after arriving in Iowa and at the age of sixteen years secured a teachers certificate and continued in this profession for sixteen years. During the last four years of teaching he had charge of the schools at Coon Rapids.

Giving up teaching he engaged in the implement business in Coon Rapids for two years, after which he disposed of the business and came to Nevada to successfully engage in a similar line of endeavor. This he continued for many years. Four years after arriving in Nevada he was elected county auditor and continued in office for two terms, retiring to resume his implement business and other private activities. It was in 1907 that he gave up his private business and devoted his time to the interests of the Iowa Implement Dealers association with which he had become the most active factor in the state.

Mr. Grove was first married to Miss Orra Beadell who was born in Lee county, Iowa. Mrs. Grove died April 9, 1930, leaving no children. Later Mr. Grove, after removing to California, was remarried to this wife, Ozza Grove, survives him.
