From the Story City News, published in Story City, Story County, Iowa on Friday, May 20th, 1887.

SUDDEN DEATH:—Mrs. John Dickoph died very suddenly last Saturday evening , under the following circumstances. When Peter Dickoph her son was home for dinner at noon Saturday, his mother requested him to come in from the field early that night for she wanted to make all preparations for going to church, several miles west, the next morning. Her son left her working in the garden being in usual health having made no complaint during the day. Upon his return from work early in the afternoon he found his mother lying dead near where he had left her at work in the garden. He immediatly carried her into the house and hurried over to his nearest neighbor for help. The usual restoratives were applied hoping to revive and bring back to life the aged mother, but the soul had fled. Her funeral was attended by a large circle of friends andd relatives on Monday at the Catholic Church in the southwestern part of this township. Mrs.Dickoph was born in Germany over seventy years ago and has lived in Story county 30 years. Her husband survives her, being in feeble health, also a son and daughter, Mrs. John Worth. The coroner was not called and no autopsy being made, the cause of death is not known, but probably occured from some unsuspected disease of the heart, or Apoplexy.

[Born May 27, 1818. Given name, maiden name, and birth date taken from NCHS Family Group Sheets.]
