Funeral Services at Zearing for Pioneer Woman

Zearing, Jan. 9--Funeral rites for Mrs. Fannie Meekins, Zearing pioneer woman who died at her home here December 31, were held Thursday afternoon at the Brouhard Funeral home with Rev. R. E. Kerney in charge. Pallbearers were Boyd Stone, Guy Clatterbuck, George Hanson, W. B. Gardiner, I. S. Madison and W. L. Reese.

The flowers were cared for by Mrs. L. L. Bowie and Mrs. W. L. Reese. Mrs. Kenneth Weaver of Union was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Lyle Bailey.

Burial was made at the side of her husband in the Zearing cemetery.

Fannie Seletcha Meekins was born June 12, 1889 on a farm six miles northeast of Zearing, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Meekins, and died at her home in Zearing December 31st, 1940, at the age of 51 years, 6 months and 19 days. She was married to George Kennedy, Oct. 18, 1922 at Marshalltown, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1932. She leaves two brothers, Ernest and Harry. Her parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death. After her husband's death Fanny came home to tenderly care for her parents until their death. She has since made a home for her brothers, by whom she will be greatly missed, also by other relatives and a host of friends.

She was a member of the Christian church of Zearing, also of the Rebekah lodge and Fireman's Auxiliary of Marshalltown and of the Zearing American Legion Auxiliary. She took an active part in the ladies' aid society of the Christian church until her illness which caused her death.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mrs. Jess Meekins, Mr. and Mrs. Weaver of Ellsworth; Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Weaver of Union; Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Elliott of Albion; Mrs. Del Roberts and daughter of Newton; Mrs. Ed Williams and nephew of Sac City; Mr. and Mrs. Loren Maulsby of Eldora; Mr. and Mrs. Jess Bainter of Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Louis LaPlant, Leslie Kelso and daughters, Fred Meekins, Mrs. Tom Andrews, Mr. and Mrs. Toni Gilmore and others of St. Anthony.
