Funeral Services Held at Collins for Late Edwin Carver

Special to Journal.
Collins, Dec. 27--Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 19, at 2:30 o'clock form Collins Methodist church for the late Edwin D. Carver of near Collins, who passed away on Friday, Dec. 17, at the home of his son Jesse Carver, northeast of Maxwell. A ladies quartet composed of Mrs. Ronald Good, Mrs. L. M. Hall, Mrs. L. D. Holland and Mrs. C. R. Stone, with Miss Calla Wood at the piano sang "Be Still My Soul" and "Still With Thee." The Rev. Duane Manning, pastor of the local church brought a comforting message and presided at the grave side service. The floral offerings were numerous and very lovely. Miss Iva Swallwell and Mrs. O. N. Serbein assisted in their arrangement at the church and grave.

Interment was in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery at Collins. Pallbearers, nephews of the deceased were Henry Duesbury, Clarence Morrison of Collins, Floyd Carver of Maxwell, Wayne Carver, James Hall and Ray Hughes of Des Moines. The following brief obituary was read at the services:

Dewill Edwin Carver, son of Jabez and Ellen Jackson Carver, was born Aug. 9, 1867, at Orfordsville, Wis., and passed from this life Dec. 17, 1943, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 8 days. He moved with his family to Iowa when a small boy and grew to manhood south of Collins, where he lived his entire life. He was married to Clara E. Morrison, Dec. 25, 1889 and she preceded him in death 25 years ago.

To this union three sons were born, Harlan Jefferson and Tilghman Jabez of Collins and Jesse Edwin of Maxwell.

He is survived by the son, six grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Ada Hughes of Webster City, Mrs. Nate Garrett and Mrs. C. H. Holbrook of Long Beach, Calif. and one brother, Ira Carver of Oakes, N. D.

The deceased was a highly respected citizen of this community, a kind father, good neighbor and friend. He prospered in his chosen work, that of farmer and stockman and will long be remembered for his generosity and kindness to his family and friends.
