Funeral Services For Forest Turner Held in Colo Church

Colo, Aug. 29 -- Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in the Evangelical United Brethren church for Forest LuVerne Turner, who passed away Sunday afternoon at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames.

Rev. Raymond L. Russell, pastor of the church, was in charge of the service with Rev. Lookingbill of Nevada bringing a message of comfort to the sorrowing family, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ray Gooden and Jimmie Beal sang three numbers with Mrs. H. G. Larson, also of Maxwell presiding at the piano. The songs were "Face To Face", "Going Down The Valley" and "Beautiful Isle."

Casket bearers were Loy and Floy Black, Ernie Anderson, Marley Anderson, Jack Heintz, Wayne Morris, all forver school mates of the deceased.

The many beautiful floral arrangements were cared for by Mrs. Walter Smay and Mrs. Wilbur Gerlach.

Military honors were very impressively given by members of the Nevada American Legion, assisted by the Colo American Legion. Interment was in the Colo cemetery.

Obiturary

Forest LuVerne Turner, son of Charles A. and Hazel Turner, was born at Maxwell, Iowa on September 22, 1927 and passed away August 17, 1947 at the age of 19 years, 10 months and 25 dyas. He was injured in an automobile accident near Ames and died within a few hours in the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames.

At the age of 10 he moved with his family to a farm northwest of Colo. He was a graduate of Fernald high school in the class of 1945. He left for army service in December, 1945. After serving for a number of months in the army of occupation in Austria, he received his honorable discharge on July 23, 1947, just three weeks before his death.

Besides his parents, he leaves to mourn his passing four sisters, Mrs. Charles Lewis of Nevada, Mrs. Kenth Morris of Crossett, Arkansas, Katherine and Doris, both at home, three brothers, Pfc Francis D. Turner stationed at Pasadena, California, Charles and Robert, both at home; Mrs. Hattie Tichenor of Colo, whom he always though of as a grandmother, and a large circle of other relatives and friends.

Forest was a young man of likable and friendly personality, energetic and industrious. He had served his country well in days of war and was just beginning to take his place in his community when he passed away. Those of us who knew him will cherish his memory in years to come.

Relatives and friends attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Lee Turner and family, Mrs. Ella Myers, Mrs. Minnie Averiall, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Turner of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Art shepherd and son, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Griffin, Mrs. Glenn Wallace, Mrs. Lela Harvey, Miss Vera Funk of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Ross Lin of Maxwell; Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Jackson of Rhodes; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ginter of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Pike of Marshalltown and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gray of Rhodes.
