Death of Mrs. Pool.
The death of Mrs. Thomas Pool occured at her home in the north part of town Saturday morning at 8:45 after a protracted illness of some weeks, the past few days of which her death head been hourly expected. The funeral will be held from the home tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock and the interment will take place in the Nevada cemetery. The services will be conducted by Rev. R. E. Shaw of the Methodist church.
The deceased was about 65 years of age at the time of her death, being born in Pennsylvania. Her maiden name was Maria Katherine Balliett. With her brothers and one sister she accompanied her parents to Iowa in an early day. The parents lived of a farm in Lincoln township for many years but both have now passed to the world beyond.
Besides her husband, Thomas S. Pool, to whom she had been married about twenty-five years, she leaves two daughters, by a former husband*, Mrs. Fred Banks of Ames and Mrs. Frank Bolton of Zearing. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. F. D. Burdick of Ames and six brothers. The latter are Stephen of Des Moines, Charles of Omaha, Joseph of Bellvidere, Ill., Monroe of Des Moines, George of Miller, S. D. and Sam of Helena, Mont. With the exception of the last two named all of the rest ill be present at the funeral.
Mrs. Pool has always had a very strong constitution and when attacked with a cancerous growth of the stomach some months ago it went very hard with her. For several weeks she had been recognized as in a most serious condition.
She was a woman given to looking after the interests of her own home and was charitable and a warm friend to those with whom she had an interest. The husband and many other relatives will receive the sympathy of the entire community in their hour of bereavement.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Maria Balliet married two times: (1) James Albert Hutchins on 23 February 1864 in McHenry County, Illinois and (2) Thomas Smith Pool on 26 July 1880 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa.
