OBITUARY OF CARRIE TOOT

Had Been a Resident of Story County for Many Years

Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Toot who died at the home of a daughter at Alden, Minnesota, Jan. 12, were conducted at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Fernald, at 2 o'clock Sunday, following a short service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Toot. A mixed quartet consisting of Mrs. Ira Vail, Mrs. Vern Proctor, Mitchell Wherry and Howard Hilburn with Blanche Hilburn as pianist furnished the music and services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. Robert A. Helms.

George Chapman of Nevada, John Smith, Carl Hilburn, Will Roe, Will Mead and Hans Jacobson acted as pall bearers. The church was filled to capacity by neighbors, relatives and friends, a number of which were from a distance.

Carrie A. Toot was born in St. Lawrence county, New York December 14, 1863, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Bedell, and passed away after a long illness at the home of her daughter Pearl of Alden, Minn., January 12, 1928, age 64 years, 28 days. At the age of seven she moved with her parents to a farm near Maxwell where she grew to womanhood and on January 1, 1884 she was united in marriage to Melvin McIntosh. To this union was born one child, Inez Viola. After only three years Mr. McIntosh passed away on June 6, 1887.

On March 9, 1890 she was married to Charles E. Toot and they settled upon a farm in Richland township where they made their home for nearly twenty-five years. When a young woman she joined the Christian church and later became a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran church of Fernald in which faith she reared her children.

She leaves to mourn her loss nine children, Mrs. Inez V. Toot of Blue Earth, Minnesota, Mrs. Pearl E. Toot of Alden, Minnesota, Leslie Toot of Nevada, Clarence E. Toot of Los Angeles, Calif., Simpson Toot of Nevada, Mrs. Hazel A. Stowe of Cambridge, Mrs. Kate Pulliam of Los Angeles, Mrs. Mary Shaffer of Simland, Calif., and Ben B. Toot of Nevada; also 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, also a sister Mrs. J. S. Marvel of Los Angeles and three brothers F. L. Bedell of Los Angeles, Orrie E. Bedell of Hastings, Nebr., and U. S. Bedell of Coalville, Utah; and many friends.

An infant daughter and her husband preceded her in death. After her husband's death, she kept her family together here for seven years, later living alternately with her children in California, Minnesota and Iowa.
