CLIFFORD GREENBERG
ZEARING -- Word was received last weekend of the death of a former Zearing resident, Clifford Greenberg of Waterloo.
He died of cancer of the liver of Saturday, Dec. 19, 1982. His body was cremated.
He was born to Minnie Greenberg but she failed to survive and he was raised by his grandfather, Charles Greenberg. He attended Zearing schools and was a member of the armed forces in World War I.
He helped charter the local American Legion Post 116 and was a past commander. He also served as mayor of Zearing and practiced as a barber.
Survivors include his wife, Ariel, of Waterloo, and two nieces, Helen Christensen of Zearing and Lorraine Koenig of Mountain Home, Ark.
Greenberg wrote the early history of the local American Legion Post, which covered the years until 1938, and recently left a copy of it in Zearing.
