EDGAR F. BRIGGS DIED SATURDAY; FUNERAL TODAY

PASSING OF LONG TIME RESIDENT OF NEVADA END OF LONG ILLNESS.

Edgar F. Briggs, 58, for over thirty years a resident of Nevada, 28 years of which time he was assistant cashier of the Farmers Bank, died Saturday at about 11 a. m., death coming as he end of a decline in health that had extended over period of several years.

The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church this afternoon at 2:30, by his pastor, Rev. Jackson Giddens after which he was laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery.

Mr. Briggs was born at Egypt Settlement five miles southeast of Manito, Ill., September fourth, 1866. He was married on May 12, 1895, to Miss Elizabeth Dierkes, at Mason City, Ill., and to them were born three children, Edgar who died in infancy, their two sons Home and Royal, who with their mother are left to mourn his departure.

Mr. Briggs after leaving the public schools attended and graduated from the Gem City Business College at Quincy, Ill., in 1891, and two years later came to Nevada to take the position of Assistant Cashier in the Farmers' Bank, of which his uncle, Mr. Otis Briggs, was then president. He continued to serve in that capacity for twenty eight years until in January 1921, because of failing health, he was obliged to give up his active service in the bank. For twenty-five years he was treasurer of the school district of Nevada in which record of long service he was justly proud of the confidence and approval accorded him as such official. He was a member of the M. E. church of Nevada and always consistent and attentive in all church duties.

Mr. Briggs was possessed of a congenial and friendly disposition which gave him a happy faculty for making and holding friend whose regard and good will were maintained throughout his business life and associations as treasurer in the trusts accorded him and after his premature retirement from active business life during the several years of his subsequent illness his friends have shown a generous solicitude for his welfare and he is now held in cherished and kindly remembrance.
