George Severtson

George Melanchton Severtson, formerly of the Slater community, died at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Kerrville, Tex. He was a retired W.W. I. veteran.

George was born at Slater to parents John and Malinda Severtson. He attended the Slater schools and the Capital City Commercial College at Des Moines. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He moved to Britton, S. Dak. where he resided for several years. He married Thelma Jarrett of Britton, S. Dak. Following their residency in South Dakota, they moved back to Slater.

Seven children survive: Col. Dale Severtson of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Ronald Jarchow of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. James O'Brian of Olney, Md., Kern of Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Carter Dove of McLean, Va., Rock of Niles, Mich. and Mrs. Barry Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz., all present at the funeral. Fifteen grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Otis Warren of Ames, Mrs. Inger Powell and Julia Severtson of Beloit, Wis. also survive.

One sister, Mrs. Herman Satre of Sturgis, S. Dak. and two brother, Clifford Severtson and Luther Severtson of Slater, his parents and his wife preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the Schroeder Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Crabtree of Des Moines officiating, using Mr. Severtson's favorite Bible passage, Psalm 127:1-2. Mrs. Glenda Nehring and Mrs. Marion Doran, both of Madrid sang a favorite hymn, "Sweet Hour of Prayer."

Burial was at the Linwood Park Cemetery at Boone, Iowa.
