Services Held At Cambridge Oct. 19 For Oliver Johnson

Funeral services for Oliver Johnson were held Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge with the Rev. H. A. Kroepel officiating. Lewis Malmin of Des Moines snag two numbers accompanied on the organ by Mrs. D. W. Ryerson.

Casket bearers were Willard Henderson, John Behling, Miller Henderson, John Behling, Miller Wee, Lewis Gilbert, Tom Erickson and Kermit Johnson.

Burial was in the Palestine cemetery. Riis Funeral Home of Slater was in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary

Oliver J. Johnson, son of John O. and Martha Johnson was born on October 2, 1875 west of Cambridge. He passed away on October 17, 1963 at the Bethany Manor Home in Story City where he had been a resident for the past 2 1/2 years.

Mr. Johnson was confirmed in the Palestine Lutheran Church on Nov. 2, 1890. He was united in marriage to Rachel Wing on June 11, 1903. She preceded him in death on June 6, 1956. Also preceding him in death were his parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.

Survivors include one son, Thurman, a grandson, Roger of Cambridge, one brother, Tilden of Des Moines, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Georgina Johnson of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, also a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Mr. Johnson was charter member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge. He was engaged in farming all his life around Cambridge until his retirement.
