David Stensland, age 76, of rural Ames passed away August 17, 2019 at Mercy Westlakes in Des Moines. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 20 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Nevada Cemetery.

David Harold Stensland was born on November 1, 1942, the son of Orland and Pauline (Berrett) Stensland. He graduated from Huxley High School in 1960. After attending Iowa State University, David owned and operated the Crop Care Company in Gilbert from 1961-1974. Since then, he has been actively engaged in farming. He married Joan Philiph on December 14, 1963 at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames. In addition to farming, David enjoyed restoring tractors, woodworking and spending time with his family. He was also the Milford Township clerk for the past 42 years.

He is preceded in death by his father, Orland and brother, Tom. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan; son, Jeff (Kristie) Stensland, of Nevada; daughters, Julie (Craig) Schrader, of Story City, Jessie (Josh) Larson, of Indianola; mother, Pauline Stensland; six grandchildren, Zach (Sheyenne) Stensland, Travis (Cailey) Stensland, Cole, Allison, Jude, Eleanor; three great-grandchildren and one brother, Ron (Virginia) Stensland of Ames and two nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Nevada Fire Department, or the Nevada or Gilbert FFA chapters, which he avidly supported.
