Funeral Services Held Tuesday for James M. Gardner

Maxwell, May 12 -- Funeral services for James M. Gardner, 82, were held Tuesday afternoon in the Peoria Methodist church with the Rev. C. R. Fitz officiating. Burial was in the Peoria cemetery. The beautiful floral offerings were in charge of Mrs. Harriet Green and Mrs. Esther Brown. Casket bearers were his grandsons, William Shanklin, Dale and Harold Gardner and Harold, Irvin and Cecil Aldrich. Mrs. Alice Gooden, soloist, sang "Rock of Ages," "In the Garden" and "No Disappointment in Heaven", with Mrs. Charlotte Caple accompanist on the piano.

Rev. Fitz read the following life sketch: James Monrie Gardner, son of David and Betsey Gardner, was born in Polk county, Ia., on June 22, 1864 and passed away in his home in Peoria on Sunday, May 4, 1947 at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 11 days. He was united in marriage to Clara Etta Holtsclaw. To this union four children were born, Charles, Zella, Lillian and Bessie. Mrs. Gardner, Zella and Bessie preceded him in death. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Arsula Gordon of Pawnee City, Neb., the only son, Charles Gardner of Peoria; one daughter, Mrs. Andrew Morgan of-Elkhart, 27 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
