DEATHS

George J. Vallem

Funeral services for George J. Vallem, age 87, were held from the Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, Friday, November 16 with the Rev. Olaf Holen officiating.

Mr. Vallem passed away at Oak Park Manor in Nevada Tuesday, November 13 after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Clifford Christensen sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "How Great Thou Art:, accompanied at the organ by Kirby Christensen.

Casket bearers were Gary Vallem, Charles A. Hulse, Jerry Vallem, James Cook, James Lee and Albert Sampson. Burial was in the McCallsburg cemetery.

George Jacob Vallem son of Osmund and Malinda Vallem was born near Garden City, April 25, 1886. He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church near Garden City.

On February 10, 1909 he as united in marriage to Alma Lura. He was a farmer near McCallsburg until his retirement and served many years on the school board and the elevator board in McCallsburg. He was a member of the McCallsburg Bethany Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife Alma, one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Maxine) Hulse of Des Moines; two sons, Kenneth of Davenport and Gerald of McCallsburg; six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and five sisters.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Orville and Raymond, his parents, three brothers and one sister.
