Rasmus Westvold
Rasmus Westvold was born May 21, 1893 at Haugesund, Norway. The youngest of six children, he is the last of the family to come to America in March 1911 with his brother Syvert. They lived with their sister, Mrs. Osmond Larson near Huxley, Iowa, worked at various farms in the area, and then took a short course in blacksmithing at Iowa State College. He then worked at construction in various states, and had his own blacksmith shop in Tulle Lake, California.
He married Mary Leonard Aug. 21, 1927, and served in the U.S. Army from 1918-1919 in France.
He and Mary moved to Missouri in 1966, where Mary passed away Feb. 21, 1967. He then moved to the Huxley area where he lived until 1975 when he went back to Missouri to make his home with Mrs. Helen Cummings.
In January 1979 he entered the hospital at Bonne Terre, Mo. where he passed away on Feb. 2, 1979.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three sisters, Serena, Karina and Bronla, two brother Sjur and Syvert.
Surviving are 11 nephews, six nieces, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in Desloge, Mo. on Feb. 23.
