DAVID TJERNAGEL

Funeral services for David Allan Tjernagel, 34, were held New Year's Day, January 1, 1981 at 1 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ames, with the Rev. John Schmidt of Lombard, Ill., officiating. A cousin, Rev. James Olsen of Holten, Mich. also spoke a few words. Margaret Annexstad was organist. The congregation sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," "Care for Me," "Oh God of Grace," and "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus' Name."

Pall bearers were Martina and Michael Tjernagel of Story City, Gerald Tjernagel and Dr. Mark Harstad of Mankato, Minn., Dr. Peter Harstad of Iowa City and Julian Olsen of St. Petri, Minn. Burial was at Mamrelund Cemetery, east of Randall.

David Allan Tjernagel, son of Alfred and Henrietta Tjernagle of Story City, was born Sept. 23, 1946, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. He was baptize and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church near Story City.

He graduated from Story City High School, attended Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, Minn., and completed a computer programming course at ECPI, Des Moines. he was empolyed at Dial Finance Company three years in Des Moines, then at Triple I at Kansas City, Mo. for four years. He also held similar positions in Chicago. He died Sunday evening, Dec. 28, 1980 of a heart attack at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames.

Survivors include his parents, Alfred and Henrietta Tjernagel of Story City; one brother, Paul Tjernagel of Breckenridge, Colo; one niece, Franny Elizabeth Tjernagel of Mason City; also uncles, aunts and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Tjernagel in 1956.
