Mr. Hulse was born in Bazetta township, Trumbull county, Ohio, June 14, 1845, being at the time of his demise sixty years of age lacking thirty eight days. His home was in Ohio until 1877 when he came to Story county Iowa where he resided since, most of the time in Nevada. His services was mostly in the western army, notably in the Red River Campaign. During his service he received an injury to his right leg which troubled him with increased severity until the end, and as the producing source of blood poison was the real cause of his death. Two children were born to them, a daughter dying at the age of two years, and a son Wallace B. The mother and son survive and will abide for the present in the home out of which the husband an father passed. Mr. Hulse was in his days of comparative health a man of industrious habits, working most of the time as a carpenter and joiner. He was a good and rapid workman, and numerous school houses in the county and other buildings testify to his good workmanship. His funeral services were conducted by Rev. Sanford, at the house Tuesday afternoon and by the Nevada G. A. R. Post at the cemetery where the burial took place. Mr. Hulse had the record of being a good soldier in the war for the Union, was a man of intelligence and kindly sentiments, and is the last of family to pass over the river, his parents and all the other members of the household having passed on before him. Mrs. Hulse and son and duly grateful for the assistance an kindly attentions given by neighbors and friends and comrades in their time of bereavement.
