DEATH OF MRS. SWAIN*

Passed Away at her Home in Ames Yesterday.

Special to the Journal.
Ames, April 5--The people of Ames and especially those of the college ward were surprised to learn of the death of Mrs. John Swain*, who passed away after a very brief illness. The deceased was the wife of John Swain*, instructor in the foundry department of the mechanical engineering department at the college.

Short funeral services will be held at the home, 619 College street tomorrow morning at 8:30, conducted by Rev. Jay Kirkendall. The remains will be taken to Webster City for burial. Her maiden name was Dora L. Eells and she was born in Stevenson county, Illinois, Dec. 29, 1855. She came to Iowa in 1865. She was married to John A. Swain* in Des Moines Aug. 27, 1907 and has made her home in Ames since that time.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The deceased is Dora L. Sawin, not Swain as stated.

She apparently married at least 3 times. She married Charles Burghdurf 11 October 1874 in Webster City, Hamilton County, Iowa.

She apparently married a Mr. Dingman after Mr. Burghdurf. Her 1907 marriage record lists her as Dora L. Dingman, daughter of Edwin Eells and Phoebe Irish. She married John Adam Sawin on 27 August 1907 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.
