Pioneer Roland Woman Is Dead; Funeral Wednesday

Special to Journal.
Roland, March 30--Three times married and as many time widowed, Mrs. Elizabeth Fagerland died here Sunday evening at the advanced age of 85 years, after an illness of three months from complications incident to old age.

Funeral rites will be Wednesday afternoon, with prayer services at the home of her son Conrad A. Fagerland in Roland where she died, at 1:30, followed by the funeral proper at Bergen church at 2:00, with her pastor Rev. Sumstadt in charge. Burial will be in the Roland cemetery.

She was born at Bergen, Norway, May 17, 1851, grew to young womanhood there and was married first to Sjur Bakke in 1871. He died after about a year leaving her one son, Sam Bakke, now of Roland.

Eight years later, or in 1879 she was married to Andrew Heriem and three children were born to them, they being Bertha, Kalben and Henry. All are now dead.

She came to America in 1884 and was married the third time, to Bartholus Fagerland, at Roland in 1888. Mr. Fagerland died in 1909, leaving her two sons. Of these Casper died in 1914 and the other Conrad had lived in Roland and she had been spending her winter months with his family.

For the past few years she had had her home in McCallsburg part of the time.

She leaves besides her son Sam Bakke and Conrad Fagerland, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
