From Nevada Representative August 19, 1896 (page 2)
On last Thursday morning about 8 o'clock, Walter, son of G. W. Thornwell living south of Elwell, one mile and a half, was instantly killed by lightning. Mr. T. had gone to one of the neighbors to help thrash, and left the boy doing chores at home. A shower coming up he took shelter under a shed, the other children went to the house. The house was struck, and considerable damage, but no one was hurt. Search was made for Walter, and he was found dead under the shedd, which had bee struck too. He was eleven years of age. The funeral was held at Elwell on Friday afternoon, and was conducted by Rev. Force, assisted by Rev. Ferguson.
