Mrs. Rebecca Loud, 87, pioneer Story county woman, for over 74 years a resident of Ames and daughter of L. Q. Hoggatt, an early day Story county sheriff, died Tuesday night at the home for the aged in Des Moines, where she had made her home for the past two years.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m., at the Duckworth funeral home. Mrs. W. H. Meeker will have charge of the services which will be those fo the Church of Christ Scientist, of which Mrs. Loud was a member. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.
Mrs. Loud was born Nov. 13, 1850 in Indiana but had lived in Iowa since 1860. Her husband, George D. Loud, whom she married Feb. 9, 1871, was an undertaker in Ames for many years. He died in 1907. There were no children.
Mrs. Loud was a daughter of Lucian Q. Hoggatt, a pioneer of Ames, whose name originally was given to the street which is now Grand avenue. As a child Mrs. Loud lived in a small house that stands at the rear of the C. G. Deal property at 927 Fifth street Ames, a house which Lucian Hoggett built entirely of black walnut.
A brother Volney Hoggatt, connected with the Denver Post for many years, died a few years ago.
