Funeral Services Held Thursday for Mrs. Emmett Scott

Funeral services for Mrs. Emmett Scott, 41, who died at Iowa sanitarium here July 11, were held at the Methodist church in Maxwell Thursday, with the pastor Rev. Judson T. Perkins in charge. Burial was in the Iowa Center cemetery.

Bernette Theresa Tollefson, daughter of Lars and Anna Tollefson, was born at Slater, Iowa, on March 6, 1897, and departed this life on July 11, 1938 at the Iowa sanitarium at Nevada aged 41 years, 4 months and 5 days. Just two weeks previous to her death she had undergone an operation for appendicitis and while everything had been done for her it seemed to no avail.

She attended the Slater school and then attended the John Fletcher college at Oskaloosa for some time. She then taught rural schools for about three years.

On May 16, 1919 she was united in marriage to Emmett R. Scott at Colo. To this union three children were born, Elenor, John and Larry. She had lived in the Iowa Center community since her marriage.

As a young woman she united with the Evangelical church but later transferred her membership to the Methodist church at Maxwell. She has always been very active in the work of the church and Sunday school, always willing to help wherever she could.

She loved her home and was a devoted wife and mother. She kindly disposition endeared her to all who knew her.

Besides her husband, two sons John and Larry and one daughter, Elenor, she leaves to mourn her death, her father, Lars Tollefson, three brothers, Albert, Williard and Leonard, all of Cedar Falls, Ia., and one sister, Mrs. G. V. Wilson of Rifle, Colorado. Also many other relatives and a large circle of friends mourn her death.
