Slater - Mark Alan Wampler, 66, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 while enjoying one of his regular swims. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman. A celebration of life service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Salem United Church of Christ with burial following at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Alleman.

Mark was born on May 19, 1952 in Centerville, IA to Robert C. and Teressa (Duden) Wampler. He graduated high school in 1970 at Wayne Community in Corydon, IA. During this time, Mark became an Eagle Scout and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow. During his junior year, he served as a Page in the Iowa Legislature, and his senior year, was honored to be the control board operator in the Iowa Legislature. He was bitten by the political bug early in life and was an Electoral College voter in 1972.

Being a lifetime learner, Mark continued his education at Drake University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science and went on to attend Drake Law School where he made several lifelong friends.

On July 2nd, 1989 he married Kathy L. Paulsen in Yellowstone National Park. A few years later-on Father's Day-Mark was elated when he learned he was going to be a father.

Mark worked for the State of Iowa for 30 years as an administrative law judge and also found time to give back to his community. He served as a board member to the Mid-Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America; board vice president to Consumers Energy Rural Electric Co-Op; board member to Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO); and confirmation teacher and past board member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman.

Mark is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kathy (Paulsen) Wampler of Slater; son, Andrew of College Station, TX; mother, Teressa Wampler; siblings, David (Jean) Wampler and Rebecca (Brian) Bland; in-laws, Robert and Dorothy Paulsen; brothers-in-law, Terry Paulsen and Gary Paulsen; and very special nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorials to the Boy Scouts of America-Mid-Iowa Council 177 or to Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman.
