OLAF S. SOLYST
MCCALLSBURG--Funeral services for Olai Solyst of McCallsburg were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran church in McCallsburg with the Perry Heller in charge.
Casket bearers were Morgan Olson, John S. Caltvedt, Corneil Erickson, Ross Morris, George Auestad and James Hall.
Mrs. Peter Egenes and Mrs. Alfred Mannes were in charge of the flowers.
Mrs. Carroll Lura was organist and Chester Pearson of Radcliffe soloist.
Obituary
Olaf, son of Sophia and Ole Solyst was born Jan. 28, 1887* in Stavanger, Norway, and passed away at his home on Friday, May 24 after a lingering illness at the age of 80 years.
He came with his parents to this country at the age of six. They settled around McCallsburg where he spent his entire life. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On Dec. 19, 1914 he was united in marriage to Malinda Nelson Twedt. Born to this union were three daughters and two sons all of whom with the wife survive.
The children are (Charlotte) Mrs. Clarence Brandt of Hubbard, (Gladys) Mrs. Paul Fulmer of Bellefontaine, Ohio, (Irene) Mrs. Don Boeke, Ames; Jesse Solyst of McCallsburg and Lester at home, one step daughter (Judith) Mrs. Harm Freese of Iowa Falls. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and two brothers: John of Forest City and Otto of Austin, Minn. and a sister, Mrs. Inga Nelson of Ames. His parents, one sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
Among the out of town people at the funeral were the brother John Solyst and son Elmer and Otto Jacobson of Forest City, Otto Solyst of Austin, Minn., Mrs. Inga Nelson and daughter, Mrs. Whitney of Ames, and Mrs. B. J. Solyst of Des Moines. Many relatives and friends from surrounding towns were in attendance.
Burial was made in the McCallsburg Cemetery.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Olaf Solyst was born in 1877 not 1887. Note that it states he was 80 in 1957.
