Final Services For Sakarias S. Sydness
Last rites were held Saturday afternoon for S. S. Sydness in the St. Petri Lutheran church in Story City. A short prayer preceding the church services at the Sydness home in Story City.
Special music numbers at the church included "Den Store Hvide Flok," sung by Rev. S. T. Nelson, the officiating pastor, and "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus' Name," by Mrs. Robert Kenney.
Pall bearers were T. Z. and M. H. Henryson, Otis and Henry Thorsbakken, Osmund Mortvedt and Howard Anderson. Burial was in the Story City cemetery.
Obituary
Sakarias S. Sydness, the son of Sakarias and Guri Sydness, was born at Fjelberg, Sunderland, Norway, on June 2, 1873. He came to America at the age of 17 years and first made his home with his sister, Mrs. Martha Henryson, of Story City.
Mr. Sydness made two trips back to Norway. On his second trip he was united in marriage to Sara Arnavik at Stavanger, Norway, on March 16, 1909. Four children were born to this union.
Since coming to America as a young man, Mr. Sydness has spent his time farming in the Story City vicinity. With his family he had been a faithful member of the St. Petri Lutheran church in Story City. He also helped organize the week-day Bible school in Randall.
He had been failing in health for more than a year and passed away at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the age of 76 years, four months and 23 days.
Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Survivors
He leaves to mourn his death, his wife; two sons, Sanford of Rumsey, Alberta, Canada, and Harold at home; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Blunt of Erie, Pa., and Mrs. Carman (Thelma) Lombardo of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Beverly, Peggy and Cleve Blunt; Thomas Sydness and Steven Lombardo; one sister and two brothers in Norway and three sisters in America, Mrs. Betsey Thorsbakken of Story City, Mrs. Christina Pederson of Deer Creek, Minn., and Mrs. Julia Stole of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
