Last Rites Monday For Mrs. W. J. Sherk
Committal services in Nevada's beautiful cemetery were held at 10 o'clock Monday morning for Mrs. Will J. Sherk, of Chicago, former longtime Nevada resident and teacher in the Nevada schools with the Rev. F. A. Smith officiating at the last rites.
Mrs. Sherk, who was born Rose Ellis, near Lexington, Ill., Oct 18, 1878, passed away at the Oak Park Suburban hospital, Chicago, Thursday, May 19 of heart complications. She had been in the hospital since May 5.
Funeral services were held in the Kampp Funeral home at 3:30 on Saturday in charge of the pastor of the Methodist church of which she had been a member, and active in the W.S.C.S.
The deceased had attended the Nevada schools and also Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls. She taught in both the Central and West schools in Nevada.
Forty-eight years ago, June 22, she was married to Will J. Sherk at the home of her parents who lived where W. F. Strattons have lived for a number of years. Dr. J. O. Simon, then a young pastor of Memorial Lutheran church officiated at the marriage service.
Mr. and Mrs. Sherk moved to Hastings, Mich. where they lived until about thirty years ago when they moved to Chicago.
Three sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sherk, one son Lynn passing away about twenty years ago and buried in the Nevada cemetery, and the son Richar J. Sherk of Clarenden Hills, Ill. and Robert William Sherk of Indianapolis, Ind., who with the husband and father and two grandchildren survive.
She is also survived by two brothers, Walter Ellis of Des Moines, and Earl Ellis of Lebonan, Oregon; and five sisters, Miss Leo Ellis of Chicago, Sadie, Mrs Delbert James of Chariton, Mrs. Carrie Ferguson of Princeton, N. J., Mrs. Millie Henry of Berkeley, Calif., and Mrs. Margaret Chalfant of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Mrs. Sherk was a long time member of the Nevada Sorosis club and last February had spent an afternoon in Nevada with this club. She was an active member of the Austin Woman's club and the "Y" Mother's club in Chicago. Her health had declined following an operation for a ruptured appendix shich she had undergone three years ago.

Among those from out of town in attendance at the last rites in Nevada were the husband, Will J. Sherk of Chicago, Ill., the sons and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sherk of Indianapolis, Ind., the sister Carrie Ferguson of Princeton, N. J., the sister, Miss Leo Ellis of Chicago, the sister and her husband Mr. and Mrs. Delbert James of Chariton, the brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ellis and their daughter, Mrs. Allen Crouch of Des Moines, also Mr. and Mrs. John Sherk of Warrens, Wisc.; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Tesdall of Huxley, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller of Ames, as others from Colo and other places in Story county.
