Shaffer Funeral Friday Afternoon; Interment Here
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Central Presbyterian church for Warren W. Shaffer, 40, former Nevada man, who died Tuesday at LaSalle, Colorado, where the family had recently moved.
The service in charge of his former pastor, Rev. Joseph M. Kennedy, was simple and brief, but in strict accord with the wishes of the deceased, who had made the plans previous to leaving for Colorado a few months ago.
Interment was n the Nevada cemetery. The service was attended by relatives and old neighbors and friends. Mr. Shaffer, while a resident of this neighborhood for but a dozen years, was held in the highest esteem by all with whom he came in contact. Honest, industrious, of the highest integrity and a winning personality, he was recognized as a man of the finest character.
Warren William Shaffer was born at Clarion, Iowa, on the 17th day of January in 1894. At the age of eight years he moved with his parents from Clarion to Swaledale, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.
On September 14, 1916, he was united in marriage to Mildred R. Wills at Grand Island, Nebraska. They made their home at Swaledale, Iowa, for five years and then, in the spring of 1921, they moved to Nevada where they remained until the serious illness of Mr. Shaffer forced them to leave the farm and go to Colorado there to make their home with the father of Mrs. Shaffer.
Two children, John Warren and Dorothy Ione, came to bless the Shaffer home. These two children, his wife, and two brothers, Orson R. and Hollie E. of Nevada, and sister, Mrs. Eva Hunt of Swaledale, and his mother, Mrs. Amanda Shaffer of Nevada, all remain to mourn his passing.
Death occurred at La Salle, Colorado, on May the 15th, 1934 at the age of 40 years, 3 months and 28 days.
He became a member of the Methodist church at an early age. He joined the Central Presbyterian church on March 28, 1926, and later he was elected membership of the church to the office of ruling elder. This is the highest office of the church and one that thoughtfully and conscientiously filled by Mr. Shaffer. He was loyal to his church in its every interest.
