Funeral Services For John Severaid Held At Story City
Funeral services for John M. Severaid were held in Bethel Lutheran Chruch in Story City on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 2 p. m. Pastor Quentin G. Quanbeck officiated. Miss Portia Quam accompanied Mrs. Homer Olson and Mrs. Ray Momsey as the sang.
Casketbearers were Arthur Goodmanson, Orville Olson, Herman Olson, Elmer Olson, Ray Romsey and Bert Steensland. Burial was in the Story City Municipal cemetery.
John Martin Severeid
John Martin Severaid, son of Peter and Astrid Severaid, was born July 7, 1895 and died at his home in Story City on October 28 at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 21 days following a four month illness.
On June 12, 1912 he was married to Bertha Elizabeth Engelson and to this union seven children were born. His eldest son, Parker, preceded him in death in 1943.
Mr. Severaid owned and operated farms in South Dakota before moving to Story City in 1919. In 1927 he began a motor carrier business and was active in this business until his death. He was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha; two sons and four daughters, Maynard and Milford Severaid and Mrs. Janet Hermanson, all of Story City; Mrs. Burnette Young of Osage, Mrs. Winifred Wiggin of Newton, Mrs. Connie Humphreys of Owatonnna, Minn.; 18 grandchildren and one great grandson.
Also surviving are one brother, Arthur P. Severaid of Ames, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Berge of Hopkins, Minn.; Mrs. Josie Peterson of Fedora, S. D. and Mrs. Bess Whitbeck of Sunnybale, Calif.
An infant sister and brother and his parents preceded him in death.
