Dr. William Born Dies In Story City At the Age of 52

Dr. William Richard Born, a Story City veterinarian, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Story City Memorial Hospital where he had been admitted 1 1/2 hours before. He had been ill one year.

Dr. Born was a graduate of Iowa State's College of Veterinarian Medicine with the class of 1940. Following graduation he took a government appointment at Tampa, F.a. where he met and married Marie Dorfs Feb. 2, 1941. Born July 3, 1914, at Story City, the son of Jay and Lillie Born, he grew up in that community and graduated from the Story City High School.

Since 1943, Dr. Born had been a veterinarian in Story City until a year ago when illness forced him to retire. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Veterinary Medical Association, and had taken an active part in the Story City Boy Scouts until a few years ago.

Requiem Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church west of Story City with Father Joseph Griffin in charge. Rosary will be tonight (Monday) at 8:15 p.m. at the Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Marie of Story City; one daughter Mrs. Larry (Bette) Riegel of Findlay, Ohio; two sons, Donald and Jon, Story City; his mother, Mrs. Lillie Born, Story City; and one sister, Mrs. Kas (Ruth) Zeck of Coldwater, Mich.

Preceding him in death was his father, Jay Born.

The body lies in state the Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home.
