OBITUARY
Mr. Andrew Peterson was born in Kongsted, Sjelland, Denmark, August 28, 1836 and died at his home in Story City, February 7, 1918 at the age of 81 years, 5 months, 10 days.
He served in the war against Germany in 1864 during which struggle he took part in a number of hard fought battles.
In 1871 he immigrated to Amerida settling in Marshalltown where he worked on the railroad for five years. In 1876 he was united in marriage to Kjersten Jorgenson. A year later he and his wife moved to Story county, settling on a farm, 6 miles northwest of Story City, which was their home until the year 1905 when they retired and moved to town. They joined the St. Petri Lutheran congregation upon moving to Story City of which they have been faithful members.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Peterson, all of whom with their mother survive him, namely: Hans P. Peterson of Niagara, North Dakota, Mrs. Mary Nelson of Terrell, Iowa, Lewis A. Peterson, Peter Pierson, Mrs. Anna Anderson and Mrs. Minnie West all of Story City. Eight grandchildren also survive him.
On Nov. 30, 1915, Mr. Peterson suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered. He retained the use of his faculties up to the day before his death, being on that day able to recognize and speak to those of his children who were present.
In his death, his wife and children have lost a kind and loving husband and father the community one of its most honored pioneer citizens. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the St. Petri church, Rev. Solum officiating and interment was made in Fairview cemetery.
