Funeral Services Held For Eli O. Munson, 79

STORY CITY -- Funeral services for E. O. Munson were held in Story City Thursday afternoon Feb. 21 at 1:30 at the Larson-Peterson Funeral home and 2:00 in the St. Petri Lutheran church. The Rev. Ivar Havneros officiated and burial was in the Story City cemetery, Mrs. Robert Kenny sang two numbers at the church.

Pall bearers were Carl Mathison, Silas Espe, Ed Sandvig, Alfred Sampson, Martin Egemo and Arnold Johnson.

Obituary

Eli O. Munson, the son of Rachel and Mons Monson, was born in Newark, Illinois, May 12, 1872.

He was united in marriage in Roland, Iowa, by the Rev. G. Smedal on April 6, 1898, to Alice Christian. To this union were born nine children, McKinley of Madison, Wis., Mrs. Otis Twedt of Roland, Mrs. Sam Michelson of Newell, S. D., Olaf of Rockford, Ill., Joseph of Oakland, Calif., Vernon and Emery of Story City, Dean of Oakland, Cal., and Ray, who preceded his father in death in 1948.

The Munson family had lived in Story City since 1818 when they bought a home here and he was employed in the carpenter trade. Prior to that they had farmed near Clarion and Roland.

Mr. Munson had been in failing health the past three years and died at his home at 4:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 1952, at the age of 79 years, nine months and six days.

Besides his wife and eight children, he leaves three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. John Surson of Belmond, Ia., Mrs. Garfield Hendrickson of Moose Jaw, Canada, Mrs. Lewis Spicer of Peru, Ill., Ole Munson of Tucson, Ariz., and Knut of Story City.
