Clarence Monson
Funeral services for Clarence Lester Monson, son of Mons and Dothia Monson were held Saturday April 10th at 10:30 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City.
Rev. C. A. Gisselquist officiated.
Mrs. Janet Olson, organist, accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Sansgaard as they sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset."
Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.
Pall bearers were John Hand, Terry Sorenson, Paul Satre, Daryl Thorson, Wayne Thorson and Harry Jacobson.
Clarence Lester Monson was born April 2, 1909 at Story City and passed away at his home in Story City on April 7, at the age of 67 years.
His younger years were spent farming and being a hoisting engineer at the Summit Coal mine, southwest of Story City, when it was in operation; later working at the Atomic building at Iowa State University, Ames and for the Street Department for the City of Ames.
While working for the Van Voorhis Plumbing Company, his legs were severely injured in a ditch cave in.
Clarence retired from the Story City Water Plant on April 1, 1975.
He was formerly married Irene Johnson of Story City.
He was baptized into the Lutheran faith on November 4, 1966 by pastor Harold J. Masted, a former pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and a sister, Betsy Monson. He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Eldin and Loretta Hand of Ames; one nephew and wife, John and Barbara Hand of Marshalltown; one aunt, Mrs. Purnia Strickler of Fincastle, Virginia; also several cousins.
