Last Rites Held Tuesday Afternoon for John K. Graham
Maxwell, June 17 -- Funeral services for John K. Graham, 91, who passed away Tuesday afternoon in the home of his son, G. W. Graham at Mechanicsville, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 with his pastor, the Rev. C. R. Fitz officiating.
Mrs. Harold Mohler, soloist sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" with Mrs. Arthur Porter, accompanist on the piano. Pall bearers were Al Gifford, Ed. Hay, Fred Link, Roy Davey, Albert Clement and Jake Baldwin all old neighbors of the deceased when he resided on his farm.
Floral tributes of esteem were many and most beautiful. The woman's organization of the church gave a money gift in his memory to used for missions. The pastor read in part the following life sketch.
John K. Graham, son of Dr. Geo. and Susan Knepper Graham, was born at Berlin, Summersette county, Pennsylvania on Feb. 10 1856 and passed away on June 10, 1947 in the home of his son, G. W. Graham at Mechanicsville. He came to Iowa from Pennsylvania in a covered wagon with his parents when one year old. They settled in Jasper count near Mingo where he grew to manhood and was married to Mrs. Paulina Woods Wentworth on Oct. 23, 1884.
After a few years they moved onto a farm in Polk county south of Farrar where they lived until 1919 when they came to Maxwell where they resided until Mrs. Graham passed away on April 3, 1943.
Three children were born to this union (Edna) Mrs. C. L. Gifford of Nevada, George William, of Mechanicsville and Miss Winefred who preceded her parents in death eight years ago. He spent the last four years with his daughter in the winter and son in the summer time. Burial was made in the family lot in the Graham cemetery near Mingo.
