Funeral Services Held Sunday for John E. Lanning

Ames, August 21 -- Funeral services were held at the Adams Funeral chapel here Sunday afternoon for John E. Lanningm 66, longtime Ames resident, who died at a hospital here Friday afternoon of a heart attack a week previous.

Lanning, born on a farm near Marengo, had lived in Ames since boyhood and for many years was connected with the grocery business and later was on the road as a representative of a Cedar Rapids wholesale fruit and vegetable house. More recently he had been connected with local wholesale fruit houses.

He leaves his sons David and Daniel Lanning and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Jane Parker of Indiana, and sisters Mrs. Myrtle Lanning and Mrs. Julia Goddard of Ames, Mrs. M. F. Morrison of Seattle.

His first wife was Miss Lank* of Nevada, who died in 1916. He was later married to Miss Hattie Mae Conner of Michigan.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: John E. Lanning's first wife was Nettie Augusta Lang, not "Lank" as stated. They were married 22 December 1897 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa.
